Bath’s perfect venue for opera

Roper Theatre

Bath Opera’s forthcoming production of La Sonnambula will be staged at the city’s fantastic Roper Theatre. We find out more about Bath’s latest live performance venue.

Opened by Amy Williams MBE

The Roper Theatre forms part of the West Wing at Hayesfield School and is a purpose built performing arts theatre which was officially opened on 6th May 2011 by Amy Williams, a former student and Winter Olympics Gold Medalist. It was built with generous financial support from the Roper family of Bath’s Roper Rhodes.

A view to the stage

All of the 250 seats at the Roper Theatre have uninterrupted views of the stage. Even our beautiful Theatre Royal has problems with sight lines with some seats!

And it’s a huge stage too – perfect for the full chorus and crowd scenes in La Sonnambula where we will have over 40 singers on stage at some points in the production.

Getting there

Unlike city centre venues there are no problems with car parking at the Roper Theatre. You can even walk there from Bath Spa Railway Station in 18 minutes!

When you arrive you can be sure of a warm welcome in the spacious atrium with its nearby  bar – perfect for that welcoming Bellini Cocktail for Gala night ticket holders!

And no problems with access either as this state of the art venue meets all current expectations with sensible ramps and lifts for those that need them to take you directly to your comfortable seat for the perfect night at the opera.
