Don Giovanni Summer Tour heralded Bath Opera’s “best yet” in rave review
Bath Opera’s Summer Tour of Mozart’s ‘Don Giovanni’ kicked off on Friday 28th June at the Strode Theatre in Street, and concludes this weekend on Friday 19th July at Julian Slade Theatre, Prior Park College.
The success of the tour thus far is summed up in Fanny Charles’ review of last weekend’s performance in Wincanton, published online by the Fine Times Recorder. The review praises all of our principal singers, but pays particular tribute to Sebastian Stride (Don Giovanni) and Simon Wilson (Leporello) as a partnership resulting in a “toss-up [as to] which of these is the “star” of this show”. Mehreen Shah (Donna Anna), Charlotte Whittle (Donna Elvira) and Alexander Pinkstone (Don Ottavio) were all heralded as talented young singers for their respective performances, and Maisie Rae O’Shea (Zerlina) and Joseph Folley (Masetto) were praised for their “convincing chemistry”. Roderick Hunt inhabited “the role that literally pull[ed] it all together [as] the Commendatore”.
Dominic Irving was praised for his impressive accompaniment, whilst director Harvey Evans was acknowledged for the “intelligent ideas” which created this updated production.
