Bath Opera’s magnificent production of Faust will be laden with drama, wit, theatricality and soaring melodies including favourites such as The Jewel Song, Soldier’s Chorus and ‘Le veau d’or’.

We caught up with stage director Dave Key-Pugh, musical director Rupert Drury and the talented cast to find out more.

As you will see from the video above, stage director Dave Key-Pugh is setting this spectacular opera in the present day, somewhere in deepest Europe, against a backdrop of civil war and technological changes.

Faust is an ageing scholar who is so disappointed with life that he makes a deal with the devil.

Lured into temptation by the demonic Mephistopheles, Faust trades his morality for the earthly pleasures life has to offer.

However, his world begins to fall apart as he comes to realise that dealing with the devil is never as straightforward as it may first seem!

‘The opera is gorgeously tuneful and tells the story of Faust, a man who makes an unlikely deal with the devil.’  TimeOut
