Charles-François Gounod’s operatic masterpiece ‘Faust’ dates from 1859. Bath Opera’s magnificent production is laden with drama, wit, theatricality and soaring melodies including favourites such as The Jewel Song, Soldier’s Chorus and ‘Le veau d’or’.

Discover the gripping story of Faust, a man hell bent upon winning his heart’s desires at any cost, even his soul..

Against a background of civil war, a community steeped in tradition and challenged by technological changes, stage director Dave Key-Pugh sets this spectacular opera in the present day, somewhere in deepest Europe.

‘The opera is gorgeously tuneful and tells the story of Faust, a man who makes an unlikely deal with the devil.’  TimeOut

Faust is an ageing scholar. Disappointed with life, he makes a deal with the devil. Lured into temptation by the demonic Méphistophélès, he trades his morality for the earthly pleasures life has to offer.

However, Faust’s world begins to fall apart as he comes to realise that dealing with the devil is never as straightforward as it may at first seem!
