Marriage of Figaro secures Bath Opera NODA Award win for the second year running

Following our success at the 2022 NODA awards, Bath Opera were once again invited to attend the NODA Awards Ceremony at the Plymouth Crowne Plaza Hotel on 18th May 2024, where our 2023 Summer Tour production of The Marriage of Figaro was awarded the Gerry Branton Award for Best Operatic Production in the South West! This is a fantastic achievement for all who were involved in the production and marks a 2-year winning streak for Bath Opera after our joint win with Bristol Opera the previous year.

Marriage of Figaro was performed in the Summer of 2023 across 5 different venues for a total of 7 performances to an audience of 540. Director William Stevens set his unique production in the 1950s in a British film studio, and the tour featured popular members of Bath Opera alongside some great new additions. Congratulations go to all the cast, MD Peter Blackwood, director William Stevens, as well as Emma Cayeux, who stepped in late in rehearsals to accompany the performances.

The reviewer for the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) said
‘Wow! That is all I can say to sum up this production! The performance fitted the venue brilliantly and I loved the younger singers in particular. The virtuoso passages were wonderful … the clarity of diction from everyone was fabulous and the excellent musicianship of the whole cast was very evident to all.’
In the wake of having received this award for our last two touring productions, we are looking forward with even more anticipation to this year’s Summer Tour of Don Giovanni, for which tickets are available now.
