Meet the people who guide Bath Opera’s vision.

Our trustees bring together broad experience in music, theatre, education, and community life. United by a shared passion for opera, they volunteer their time to support our productions, nurture emerging talent, and ensure Bath Opera continues to thrive as part of the city’s cultural landscape.

Fiona Gray
Chair

Fiona Gray, newly appointed Chair of Bath Opera, has been involved with the company for the past three years in various roles following her retirement and move to Bath. A lifelong devotee of classical music and opera, she is driven by a commitment to ensure Bath Opera continues to create memorable productions, supports and develops emerging talent, and shares the transformative power of live operatic storytelling with both new and long-standing audiences throughout the region.

Jeremy Smeddle
Treasurer

Jeremy Smeddle joined Bath Opera in 2015 and is a regular chorus member. “As a trustee I am committed to protecting the spirit and reputation of Bath Opera. Our company is precious and long may it continue to entertain, innovate and promote opera across the region.

Janet Cooper
Secretary

Janet has been a member of Bath Opera since she joined the chorus for Peter Grimes in 2015. Since retiring in 2024 she has become a trustee and has taken on the role of production secretary for Carmen and board secretary.

Bob Constantine
Trustee

Bob Constantine has lived  in Bath for nearly fifty years, combining a career in the media with acting and directing at a variety of venues  – most recently with Next Stage at the Mission Theatre. Carmen will be Bob’s third appearance with Bath Opera and he has also performed with Bath Light Operatic Group (BLOG).

David Palmer
Trustee

David has been involved in both professional and amateur opera for 50 years. He has been in management positions for opera groups in Liverpool as well as participating as a soloist with other societies throughout the North West.

Roderick Hunt
Trustee

Rod is an opera specialist and veteran of 150 productions across the UK, Europe, and North America. A trained solo bass, he combines performing with his role as Emeritus Professor of Biosciences at the University of Exeter. His extensive repertoire spans Verdi, Puccini, Mozart, Beethoven, and Rossini, alongside roles by Monteverdi, Gounod, Borodin, Wagner, Weill, and Sondheim. Recent appearances for Bath Opera include Prince Gremin, Bartolo, and the Commendatore.
